Bear Den - Third Graders
EARNING THE BEAR RANK
A boy or girl who is 9 years old or is in the third grade is a Bear, and their adventures are found in the Bear Handbook. Like all other new Cub Scouts, a Bear must first earn his Bobcat rank. After completing the requirements for Bobcat they may go on to complete the requirements for the Wolf rank and the many electives that are offered for their rank.
Third graders work toward the Bear rank. The Bear rank is earned by completing the four requirements as described below.
1. Complete each of the six required adventures:
2. In addition to the six required adventures, complete at least one elective adventure of your den’s or family’s choosing.
3. With your parent, guardian, or other caring adult, complete the exercises in the pamphlet entitled How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide.
4. Watch the Protect Yourself Rules video for 3rd Grade, Bear. (The video is located at https://vimeo.com/325064786 and can be watched on-line or downloaded and viewed off-line.) OR Earn the Protect Yourself Rules Preview Adventure for Bear.
After a boy or girl earns the Bear badge, they will continue to meet with their Den, working on additional elective adventures until they complete the third grade (or turns 10 years old) and become a Webelos Scout.
